<div class="payload-richtext"><p>Period Music is a research process involving Susanna Gonzo, Merma Suelo, Tuce Alba, Elizabeth Gallon Droste, Agnese Menguzzato, and Farah Hazim. The six artists aim to attune to the different temporalities experienced through our bodies, drawing from multiple meanings of period – from the menstrual cycle to musical repetitions and astronomical revolutions.<br /><br />&quot;r&#39;tu - A central meaning of the Sanskrit word for ritual, r&#39;tu, is menstruation, the original ritual. The root of r&#39;tu is in arithmetic and rhythm.&quot; *<br /><br />Period Music has been staying with essential matters on how we listen to time and rhythms in our bodies and in the world. Questioning the tempo of everyday life in an accelerated system like that of modern society, the group has opened up co-creation spaces to listen to embodied memories. Through dialogue, improvisation and jam sessions, the six artists attuned to each other’s processes, composing music, word scores and drawings – ultimately sounding together.<br /><br />This work embodies other notions of community through archetypes, embracing the impermanence that reveals the countless rhythms of life. Period Music speaks of friendship and connection, and invites you to take on a journey of interconnectedness between our rhythms and the broader social structures influencing our lives.<br /><br />The project emerges from conversations that began in Berlin in the fall of 2023, including a one-week residency at Atelier Josepha in Ahrenshoop by the Baltic Sea in April 2024. The first physical iteration of this project will consist of a book and a vinyl. The album features looping improvisational compositions encoded with messages about multiple temporalities. It also includes essays, poems and interviews with Cristina Dorador (scientist), Eli Wewentxu (violinist and composer), Guillermo Canek García (writer and curator), Laura Estevez (visual artist and cultural manager), Laura Wiesner (sound artist and performer), Manuela Infante (playwright and director), Nekul Núñez (archivist, journalist and activist), Raúl Zurita (writer, poet and artist) and Sebastián Herrera (writer, poet and musician).</p></div>

Archivos de Radio Piedras

<div class="payload-richtext"><p>&quot;Narraciones de un retorno&quot; is a series of seven compositions for violin and txompe accompanied by a 56 page zine by violinist and sound artist Eli Wewentxu.  The zine was designed by Andrés Yañez and features contributions by Daniela Catrileo and Nekul Nuñez.</p><p>Throughout &quot;Narraciones de un retorno&quot;, Eli shares the sound-memory of the territory in Wallmapu to which his family has belonged for generations.  The work addresses topics such as the drought in the Chomio lof; the experience of growing up in the between space between the countryside and the city of Padre las Casas, Eli&#39;s family&#39;s connection with carpentry, their relationship with enforced Catholicism, the prohibition to make music with the txompe, poetics and practices critical of the violin’s hegemony imposed by the academy and finally a narration of Eli&#39;s return to the territory after having lived far away on another continent. </p><p>Eli Wewentxu is a Mapuche artist from PLC, Gulumapu, Wallmapu, called today south central Chile.</p><p>Music and English translation document come in violin-shaped USB stick.</p></div>

<div class="payload-richtext"><p>In conjunction with the album, ‘Rhizomes’ comes complete with a set of illustrations by Kim Grano in a book release. The drawings become a hybrid language, each an emotional response to the musical half. The book contains a sample pack by Aho Ssan, a collection of solo tracks by Elliot Blaise-Lassire, KMRU, Lamin Fofana, Brodinski &amp; Sébastien Forrester, Valence Drake, 9T Antiope, Exzald S and Valentina Magaletti and a text by Sonia Fernández Pan.</p><p>160 page, French fold jacket art / lyric book created by Kim Grano, Aho Ssan and Maziyar Pahlevan</p></div>

Rhizomes

<div class="payload-richtext"><p>Charbel Haber’s “A Common Misunderstanding of the Speed of Light” is a multi-media musing on the chronic and the chronological, the subversive nature of time. This combination of a record and book observes the slow passing of life and the illusion of retrogradation in his every day.</p><p>Simply by documenting — via image, text and tune — Haber assigns value to everything that is cast in amber by this project. There’s an acceptance and appreciation of the destitution he witnesses, it is an homage given in overlapping forms.  ACMOTSOL has two parts.</p><p>The book, hardcover in an embossed orange, features photographs and texts taken from Haber’s personal digital diary spanning from 2020 to the start of 2022. Broken into six chapters — named for the six tracks on the record — the entries are an artist’s log of sorts during a peculiar period of global hyper stagnation and navigating the aftermath of the Beirut explosions. A Common Misunderstanding of the Speed of Light

<div class="payload-richtext"><p>¡miércoles! is comprised of dancer Stéphanie Janaina and musician Nicolás Jaar. For live appearances, they improvise for a set duration of time (usually 3 hours). Everything is created in the space, nothing is played back or prepared.</p><p>Because of the long duration of the piece, people are free to enter and leave the performance area as they wish. A small, show-specific publication is distributed to audience members as they enter the space.</p></div>

<div class="payload-richtext"><p>In 2017 Okokon collaborated with designer Maziyar Pahlevan on the book Sound works + Art works, a collection of artwork Okokon created for Other People and graphic poetry by Pahlevan.</p><p>The book also contains a flexi disc record of music created by Okokon and Pahlevan.</p></div>

<div class="payload-richtext"><p>Network is an artists’ project by Nicolas Jaar, co-published by Printed Matter and Jaar’s label Other People. Designed by Jena Myung and Maziyar Pahlevan, the book is the culmination of a multi-phase project from Jaar which takes the form of an online, semi-fictitious network of interlocking radio stations built around chance operations.</p></div>

This music and sound editing 8 week workshop was tailored purposefully to Palestinians who had little to no prior experience in music or sound editing and took place every week in person at Dar Jacir. Participants learnt how to make recordings, change their sound, and tell sonic stories by layering frequencies. Facilitated by Dar Yusuf Nasri Jacir for Art and Research in Bethlehem, Palestine.</p></div>

Dar Jacir Studio

<div class="payload-richtext"><p>Exist is a festival and event series founded in Palestine, with the aim of building bridges between artists, musicians, DJs and curators from Palestine and across the globe. Its broad, transnational family are united in a desire to use art to impact their environments in critical ways, and through their engagement with anti-colonialism in the context of Palestine and beyond. Originally founded in 2019 by Odai Masri, Exist has since taken place as an ephemeral but impactful meeting point for musicians and artists who care for the Palestinian cause, and manifest this care in how they love one another. OP partly funded the 2023 edition.</p></div>
